Holistic treatment for Alopecia Areata
The most stressful autoimmune disease
Alopecia Areata is known as one of the most stressful autoimmune diseases that results in hair loss on the scalp or any other parts of the body. People also know it as Patchy Hair Loss. It occurs in all age groups but most commonly it can be seen in childhood. Alopecia areata is very challenging and capricious disease which can have a profound effect on emotional state of the patient and parents both. Due to unpredictable behaviour of the disease, patient becomes depressed and also feel isolated. Alopecia areata usually starts with a small bald patch on scalp but in some cases, it can be seen on other part of the body. Alopecia areata behaves in a different way in every patient. When a bald patch first develops, it is difficult to predict how it will progress. Alopecia areata on beard is
known as Alopecia Barbae, complete hair loss from the scalp is known as Alopecia Totalis & entire body hair loss is known as Alopecia Universalis. In some patients, cyclical or seasonal pattern is also seen, however this type of pattern is rare. In a few cases, alopecia areata shows a band like hair loss which is known as ophiasis alopecia areata. Alopecia Areata is non- scarring hair loss where hair follicles always remain live so re-growth of the hair can be seen at any stage of the life. It's yet not perfectly understood what causes alopecia areata. Modern medical science is trying to determine what triggers the disease but perfect itiology is yet not known. There are no diagnostic tests available which can predict the onset and behaviour of alopecia areata.
Conventional skin doctors have limited options for treating alopecia areata. The most popular treatments are topical minoxidil, corticosteroids, and immunosuppressant drugs. This type of treatment gives a very quick effect to re-grow hair on the patches of alopecia areata but the results may not be permanent. Once the patient stops using steroids, the chances of recurrence will be very high. Long-term use of steroids or immunosuppressant pills causes many side effects.Minoxidil was actually developed as an oral drug for high blood
pressure, but patients using minoxidil were experiencing a side
effect of hair growth thus minoxidil entered into market.
Minoxidil has been proved less effective and it has some
adverse reactions like burning of the scalp, erythema, scaling,
pruritis, dermatitis, tissue damage etc. Systemic steroids have
been found to have only partial success in the control of
alopecia areata. It gives temporary results. Unfavorable side
effects of the steroid do not permit prolonged use and once
they are discontinued, a relapse of the disease occurs. Systemic
steroids only suppress the underlying conditions and it is not a
permanent cure for alopecia areata. The other disadvantages of using steroid for long term are steroid dependability and
atrophy of the skin. Topical Immunotherapy (Chemicals such as diphencyprone - DPCP, dinitrochlorobenzene - DNCB, or
squaric acid dibutyl ester-SADBE) is proved very uncomfortable treatment and not a permanent cure for alopecia patients.
Advantages of Ayurveda Natural Treatment for Alopecia Areata
Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine, offers a
natural approach to treating Alopecia Areata, a condition
characterized by hair loss in patches. Here are several reasons
why Ayurveda might be considered better for managing this
condition. Natural Ingredients: Ayurvedic treatments utilize
natural herbs, oils, and other plant-based ingredients, which
are less likely to cause side effects compared to synthetic
drugs. Minimal Side Effects: Due to the natural basis of
Ayurvedic treatments, the risk of adverse effects is minimized.
This makes it a safer alternative, especially for long-term use.
Long-Term Benefits: Ayurvedic treatments focus on longterm health benefits rather than quick fixes. The emphasis on natural healing and strengthening the body's own
mechanisms can lead to more lasting and effective results. Personalized Treatment: Ayurveda emphasizes individualized
treatment plans based on a person's unique body constitution (Prakriti) and the specific imbalances (Doshas - Vata, Pitta,
Kapha). This personalized approach ensures that the treatment is tailored to the specific needs and conditions of the
patient. Note:While Ayurvedic treatments offer many benefits for managing Alopecia Areata, it is important to note that the
effectiveness can vary from person to person.
